Today Lee Ann and I went on a hike through Rock Creek Park on a perfect fall day here in DC. The following pictures are a collection of some of the seasonal views after a late transition of the leaves. As seen, there is a lot of lush green in these photos. But certain trees were vibrant oranges, yellows and reds and were ready to shed their spring and summer-wear.
"Details of the Minute Life"
"Rustic"

These aren't really working for me. They are good photos, but only good. I feel like the photographer didn't add much to them, merely captured what nature had to offer. To become great, these photos need a twist, a spark, an edge of some kind. See here for some examples of what I mean: http://www.matthewweathers.com/year2004/interesting_things.htm
ReplyDeleteThe exception is the "rustic" photo, but even here the extra emotion is mostly supplied by the fact that any sort of aged machinery reminds us of our own mortality. Am I truly a pompous art critic or am I just good at imitating one?
On a semi-related note, are you aware of this?
