This is a series that I have thought about doing for quite some time. It has been in my back pocket for a couple months now and I felt as if it was a success. Though the composition was somewhat limited by "worn" spots on the trumpet, I felt as if the colors and detail in many of the photos made the series exactly what I wanted.

Good idea. I've always liked the look and feel of brass instruments. They're heavy and solid and reminiscent of complex steamworks. Also many have an artistry to their design. I like your first two photos here because they evoke that feel nicely with close ups that almost make the viewer forget that they are looking at an instrument.
ReplyDeleteThe third photo is a flop, I think. It doesn't do anything for me personally. The busy half is not very interesting in itself and the empty top half doesn't enhance it as far as I can tell.
I feel like the 4th pic is good photography. I could easily see this being in a music book. It doesn't interest me personally too much though because it feels so plain. I see it, I know what it is. I don't read any subtext in it. God, I'm such an art snob.
